Addis Ababa Light Rail Transit (AA-LRT) Project
The Project:

- Electrified light rail transit
- Total length of 34.25 km (North-South line 16.9 km and East-West line 17.35 km)
- Two lines (i.e. North-South and East-West lines) use common track of about 2.7km.
- Standard Gauge (1.435 meters) and Double track for the whole route
- Capacity of 80,000 PPH (Passenger/hr)
Special Features of the Project
- Performs on steep gradient and sharp curves
- Urban Mass Transport for Addis Ababa city
- Enhances the image of Addis Ababa as the political capital of Africa
- Reduces carbon dioxide emiss ion (environmentally friendly)

Addis Ababa –Djibouti Railway Project
The project
- Length of 656 km
- Double track from Addis Ababa to Adama (107 km)
- Single track from Adama to Dewele (549 km)
- Both for freight and passenger transportation
- Connects Addis Ababa with the port of Djibouti
- Driven by renewable energy source (electric traction)
- Standard Gauge (1.435 meters)
Railway Stations
Sebeta, Lebu, Indode, Bishftu, Modjo, Adama, Metehara, Awash, Mieso, Mulu, Afdem, Bike, Erer, Dire Dawa, Shinle, Dewele, and Djibouti port stations are the major stations in the project.
Special Features of the Project
- Reduces the travel time to the Djibouti port by more than 50%
- Will contribute to the economic development of hinterland Ethiopia
- Part of the East to West African Railway Network

Mekele – Weldya/Hara Gebeya - Semera-Tadjourah Port Railway Project
The Project
- Has a total length of 675 km
- Single track of the whole route
- Both freight and passenger transportation
- Fully electrified
- Standard Gauge (1.435 meters)
Railway Stations
Mekele,Alamata,Kobo(Robit),Hara Gebeya,Semera,Dicheto and Ethiopian Border are the major stations in this project.
Special Features of the Project
- It gives alternative Port access and thus contribute to the economic development of hinterland Ethiopia.
- Connects the Northern part to central part of Ethiopia
- It is part of the National Railway Network of Ethiopia(NRNE) which connects Djibouti with the North Sudan (foster regional development)
Addis Ababa –Ijaji-Jimma - Bedele Railway Project
The project
- Has a total length of 496 km
- Single track of the whole route
- Freight transportation and mobility of passenger
- Driven by renewable energy source (electric traction) Standard Gauge (1.435 meters)
Railway Stations
Sebeta, Ambo, Ijaji, Seka, Jimm,Agaro,Toba,Dembi and, Bedele are the major stations along this corridor.
Special Features of the Project
- Reduces the travel time to the southwest part of the country.
- Connects Ethiopia to the neighboring country South Sudan.

Awash- Kombolcha-Hara Gebeya Railway Project
The project
- Has total length of 375 km
- Single track line
- Both for freight and passenger transportation
- Connects Addis Ababa with the port of Djibouti
- Driven by renewable energy source (electric traction)
- Standard Gauge (1.435 meters)
Railway Stations
Awash, Jebuha,Kureberet,Karakore,Kemise,Kombolcha,Hayik.Mersa and Hara Gebeya are the major stations in this project.
